Visiting Seoul to promote ABC's freshman smash series "Lost" wasn't a big Hollywood name, but none other than South Korean-born actress Kim Yunjin, who is known best here for her role in "Shiri."

Kim explained "Lost" to her local fans and talked about her future plans at a news conference held Thursday in Seoul. "The story centers around a group of total strangers stranded on a deserted island after surviving a horrific plane crash. Watched by about 18 million viewers, it was No. 1 in its Wednesday evening slot this fall season. It's also been sold to 100 countries", Kim said.

In the prime-time drama, Kim plays Sun _ who like the others have some secrets of her own.

When asked of recent remarks made by some members of the online community on the portrayal of her onscreen husband Jin as a controlling patriarchal figure, Kim said, "It is certainly a stereotype. But you will learn that all the characters have their own flaws and stereotypes too".

Kim's success paved the way for her casting in "Georgia Heat" opposite Billy Bob Thornton. She was also offered a role in Steven Spielberg's production of "Memoirs of a Geisha" but turned it down.

"It wasn't because I thought I had a problem playing a Japanese woman", Kim said. "Perhaps if the role had been more striking I may have considered. The geisha I was offered to play just wasn't all that appealing".

Even with her career taking off at full speed Kim expressed her desire to maintain her presence in the local scene by keeping an eye out for smaller minor roles.

But for the time being she said she wants to concentrate on her newfound career in the United States.

"I'm lucky to have been given the chance to portray a Korean on the show when Asians make up for only 3 percent of the U.S.' total population", she said. "I know that an opportunity like this doesn't come along very often I want to take advantage of it and make a place for myself in Hollywood".

According to ABC, the show's premiere is the biggest for a new ABC drama in nearly a decade and due to its homerun debut, plans for shooting the second season are currently underway.

"Lost" airs every Saturday at 1:00 p.m. on KBS2.
